On the spring evening in 1973 when Cathy and I first met each other, neither of us had any concept of the fascinating events that rested ahead of us. Six springs after that initial encounter, in April of 1979, we would be joined together as man and wife, and some 17 months later, in September of 1980, our first child, Paul, would make his arrival into the world. The ensuing decades would bring into the household 12 additional sons and a daughter.
In the spring of 1999, 20 years after our wedding day, I sat down in my home office room and began work on The Home Team, a 327-book that traces the events that occurred during the years when Cathy and I were children, along with those that unfolded throughout the first two decades of our marriage. An electronic version of The Home Team is currently available in the FamTeam Resources Department. (Note: A limited number of original paper-bound copies of the book are also available.)
The Home Team was printed in September of 1999, on the precise day when the first-ever Softball Classic was held. Almost exactly a year later, on September 13, 2000 (Paul's 20th birthday), the FamTeam website was born. Its many departments have served as ongoing sequels to The Home Team. Each edition of the various FamTeam features has been carefully preserved in the FamTeam Archives section.
In January of 2007, Cathy and I sat down and recorded a six-volume audio series entitled Adventures in Christian Parenting, a resource that contains insights and lessons gleaned during the years in which we have been raising children. Upon its completion, the series was immediately made available in our FamTeam Resources section.
It was at about this time that I recorded a 32-volume audio series entitled Conversations With Dad, a resource designed to express (in a style both spontaneous and transparent) my memories and reflections regarding the nearly 34 years that have passed since the day when I had the privilege of meeting Cathy for the first time. While recording the series, I made a point of including many bits of information about our childhoods; these early events, along with those of our parenting years, are narrated against the backdrop of God's amazing goodness, wisdom, and love.
Over the years, Cathy has had the opportunity to answer many questions (regarding such issues as motherhood, marriage, and child-rearing) that have been sent in to her via e-mail. Fifty of these questions -- and their answers -- have been compiled in the Mom's Question Corner department, a portion of the website that is available to all Family Room members.
If our present plans unfold into reality, Cathy and I will soon record a second six-volume audio series that will join the Adventures in Christian Parenting series in the FamTeam Resources section. In addition, I hope to create, in future months or years, new editions of the Conversations With Dad series.
