Mark
Belts First Home Run
In a
nail-biter of a game, FamTeam took on Curt Smith's Sporting Goods, a
seasoned team full of solid veterans. FamTeam managed to
overcome an early 7-1 deficit to rally ahead and take the game 20-19.
When the game was tied in the bottom of the fourth inning, Mark
clouted a full-count outside pitch over the head of the right fielder
for his first inside-the-park home run of the season. This
sparked an offensive onslaught, which resulted in a seven-run fourth
inning and a nine-run fifth inning.
"Our
hitting has been tremendous lately. We've scored 39 in the last
two games," said Mark of the sudden offensive explosion.
Defense was
spectacular all throughout the game, but particularly in the last
inning, when FamTeam desperately tried to hold on to their lead.
Two dazzling plays by Jude at third base saved the game. One, a
sliding foul-ball catch for the first out, and then with a 20-19 lead
hanging in the balance, he snagged a screaming line drive for the
game's final
out.
"The
ball seemed like it was in slow-motion," Jude said of his
catch. "Luckily, it wasn't far away from me, and I just
reached out and grabbed it."
Jude is
proud of the team's accomplishment. "Overall, it was a
solid game. We didn't make many mistakes, and that's how you win
ball games."
